Cascadia Enrichment: Creating More Opportunities For Curiosity, Knowledge And Exploration
Providing Care
At Cascadia we extend learning before and after school hours. Before care is offered beginning at 7 am and after care until 6 pm. During these times, students have access to art projects, games, and various indoor and outdoor activities.
Adventure
At Cascadia we believe life experience is a classroom, the earth is a classroom, our community is a classroom, and our city is a classroom.
We offer unique opportunities for the children to venture out for adventure:
Going Outs
When children in the elementary program explore a topic and need resources outside the classroom, they have the freedom to schedule a going out. During a going out children navigate our community with adult support to find what they need to continue their course of study on a particular topic. The going out experience fosters independence, responsibility and good citizenship while expanding academic knowledge of a subject.
Resources the children might acquire during a going out could include additional books on a certain topic, art supplies or construction materials to build models.
Field Trips
A variety of half day and full day field trips include a local flour mill, OMSI, Shaffer family farm, Mt St Helens, Ft. Vancouver, Portland Art Museum, Oregon Children’s Theater, Bonneville Dam, and more.
Overnight Outdoor School
Each spring the children trek to overnight outdoor school. From night hikes to nature studies, the children absorb the sights, sounds and smells of nature experiencing the wonder and magnificence of the outdoors.
Middle school students take a week long trip for hands-on learning about nature, history, science, and team building. Previous trips have included the Olympic Peninsula, Catalina Island, and the Marin Headlands.
Extracurricular Classes
Additional classes are offered after school for a fee throughout the year. Classes are included for those enrolled in after care. Offerings have included:
- Playwell Robotics
- Lego
- Art
- Drama (NWCT)
- Chess
- Soccer

Camps during school holidays and summer vacation
Cascadia holds camps for several weeks during the summer months for students from ages 6-13. A list of camp offerings and fees are available from the office in the spring. Previous camps have included baking, sports, coding, and cooking.
Depending on instructor availability and timing of the winter and spring breaks, camps may also be held at these times. Occasional weekend evening activity camps hosted by staff give Cascadia parents the chance for a night out or a night off while children engage in crafts, games, and activities.
